The Kossengwe basketball camps in Cameroon & Nigeria, specifically, has attendees ranging in 15-20 years of age. The camp’s emphasis is put on basketball skills development including ball handling, passing footwork, shooting, spacing and the defense principles of the game. Education sessions take place in the evenings where topics such a HIV/AIDS, democracy, environment, women's rights, health, education and leadership are taught.
The camps run between 3 days to 7 days depending on budget limitations of each camp per year. Many of the players attending these camps are US high school skill levels. Some have the potential to be college players but need one or two years to polish their game before he/she can start competing against US college players.
Many men and women attend the camp because they have the size and athleticism but they need to hone in on proper basketball skills instruction in order to maximize potential. The camps are advertised through the local African newspapers, national television and through the local basketball federations.
The Foundation needs all the help they can get to perpetuate the positive changes they are making with African youth through the sport of basketball.

Since its inception in 2001, Basketball Without Borders has served as a summer camp for
young people designed to promote friendship, goodwill and education through sport.
The program has featured more than 160 NBA players, coaches and team personnel from 30 different teams as camp coaches and mentors for more than 1,000 young athletes from 100 countries and territories. More than 65 members of the NBA family have taken part, including more than 30 current and former NBA coaches and team personnel.
Each Basketball without Borders camp will unite the top young basketball players (ages 19 & under) from across each continent to take part in basketball instruction and competition. Camp participants are selected by FIBA and participating basketball federations based on their basketball skills, leadership abilities and dedication to the sport.
To promote friendship and diversity, the campers will be divided into teams without regard to race and nationality. They also will participate in motivational and life-skills seminars that promote education, leadership, character development, and healthy living with an emphasis on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.

The Yao Ming Foundation has so far committed to rebuilding five schools in the earthquake region. The new earthquake resistant schools will provide top level education for more than 1000 students, many of whom will also board at the schools.
The Yao Ming Foundation is partnering with The China Youth Development Fund (CYDF) to distribute the funds and provide day-to-day oversight for the rebuilding projects. CYDF is a non-governmental non-profit organization in China that provides assistance to disadvantaged children and has helped to fund the construction of more than 9,000 primary schools in poverty-stricken regions. None of the schools built by CYDF were destroyed during the earthquake. Schools receive matching contributions from the local government to help ensure community support.
Concurrently, The Yao Ming Foundation will continue to support other schools within China. Many of the schools in China, particularly those in rural areas, are in need of substantial renovations, have little to no heat, and are not earthquake resistant.
The Yao Ming Foundation also plans to support non-profit organizations working to rebuild areas in Galveston, Houston, and other areas in Texas affected by Hurricane Ike, the third most destructive hurricane in US history. Long-term goals for The Yao Ming Foundation include supporting youth-oriented programs in China and the United States.
